About the opportunity

Indigenous Australian Student Services (IASS) provides Indigenous Australian people with the services they need to gain access to higher education and to succeed, supporting students in a culturally safe environment that is centred around academic, financial and social support foundations.

The Student Success Management Officer engages with Indigenous students identified as at risk of disengaging from their learning, supporting an environment in which the student success is maximised. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Implement innovative ways of engaging and supporting SCU Indigenous Australian students, collaborating with stakeholders (students, staff, members of the public and Elders), ensuring IASS activities align with the Universitys commitment to enhancing access and success in higher education for Indigenous Australians.
  • Provide information and support to Indigenous Australian students regarding Student Administrative procedures including admission, enrolment, examinations, fees and student support study entitlements under ABSTUDY, the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) and ensure ongoing eligibility of recipients under these schemes.
  • Collect and monitor statistical information relating to Indigenous Australian participation rates, success rates and enrolments and contribute to the reporting on the effectiveness of IASS service and support activities.
About you

Applicants must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

You will be passionate about supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to achieve their study goals, with understanding and empathy of their aspirations and support needs. In addition, you will possess:

  • An associate diploma level qualification with relevant work experience in a student administration environment or an equivalent combination of education, training or relevant work experience.
  • An ability to prioritise tasks and organise work with attention to detail.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with initiative and ability to apply policy, procedures and guidelines.
  • Computer literacy and communication skills, commitment to cultural diversity, and working knowledge of equity and WHS principles in the workplace.
Salary and benefits

  • Full-time, fixed term (2 years)
  • Located on Bundjalung Country (Lismore campus).
  • HEW 4. The base salary ranges from $69,473 - $74,607 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $87,290.
