Job Description:

The Communications Specialist is a key contributor within the Complaints & Investigations Project (CIP) and will support the successful implementation of improvements relating to the complaint handling and resolution process at UNSW. This role will evaluate and analyse complex information and translate this into simple and engaging content and communications to assist in broader understanding of how to resolve complaints quickly and effectively using appropriate channels.

This role will:

  • Develop comprehensive and user-friendly resources, including toolkits and FAQs, for staff, students and the general public.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed register of reference materials.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to design, develop, organise, write and disseminate content, including procedure manuals, technical specifications and process documentation.
  • Develop, edit and implement effective and targeted content and communications, ensuring key messages and tone align with and complement other communications relating to interdependent project deliverables.
  • Apply specialist knowledge of communications to continually evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement of the quality and efficacy of communications.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with a depth of subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into simple messages for communication to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of communications programs to support transformational changes within a complex organisational environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the target audience, with a highly effective writing style to deliver high-impact messaging.
