UNSW Hospitality as part of the Division of External Engagement, manage the conference, events, AGSM facilities and catering services of UNSW Sydney.
Our services include venue management, catering services and AV support.
About the role
The role of Hospitality Assistant is crucial to the success of the Service & Venues Team, assisting in delivering and hosting meetings and events across Kensington Campus and the City Centre (CBD Campus), providing basic AV support, making sure all furniture is setup as required and ensuring we are operating in line with the current COVID safe guidelines.
Out of hours work will be required to fulfil this role including some evening class venue custodian and overnight residential concierge shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests and visitors to the meeting or event ensuring their experience is one that delights, and always provide high-level customer service
- Setup all furniture for meetings, events and classes as required neatly and on time
- Collaboratively work with service providers (cleaning, maintenance etc.) to ensure venues and meeting rooms at well maintained, and meet the requirements of clients
- Assist with basic AV support.
- Ensure venues and meeting rooms are presented to the highest standard, and promptly report any maintenance requirements
- Assist in the execution of events, venue set up and presentation, and front of house services
- Clearly and promptly communicate client feedback to the on-site supervisor
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
- Oversee the implementation of our COVID safe plan.
- Some overnight residential concierge shifts.

Selection Criteria:
- Experience in the Hospitality or Events industries
- Demonstrate an understanding and interest of venue set up for meetings and events
- Demonstrate an understanding or have experience in basic AV systems and computers
- Good attention to detail and ability to provide good customer service
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced and demanding environment
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
