(Level B) $111,031 to $123,210 per annum plus an employer contribution of up to 17% superannuation

A 2-year fixed term position available. Flexible work arrangements can be negotiated with the right candidates.

Contribute to research projects developing novel methods for provable network security.

The School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences is recruiting a research fellow to work on next generation network security technologies.

Join a world-class research group to work on a project developing provable network security methods that use higher-order graph-based abstractions to model networks and network security problems. Scalable algorithms developed for these models are then used to generate, check, verify and correct network/device configurations for correctness and security issues. The same framework will also be used to predict and plan security countermeasures.

The successful applicant will work closely on theoretical and algorithm development and implementation, assist on dissemination (project deliverables, publications, etc) across multiple related projects. You will have a strong work ethic and the ability to work well independently and as a member of a broader team. You will work closely with collaborators and co-investigators across multiple schools within SET. You will also be fluent in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience, both orally and in writing.

To be successful, you will need:

  • To have or about to complete a PhD in related fields such as mathematics, and computer science
  • Experience with system and network security
  • Outstanding publication record – relative to opportunity

The candidate must also be:

  • Eligible to attain and hold a Commonwealth of Australia Department of Defence Security clearance;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional and collegial manner, and to build rapport with all levels of academic and professional staff within a diverse and inclusive work environment; and
  • Commitment to the principals of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Experience and knowledge of the following skills will be beneficial for the role:

  • Advanced abstract algebra
  • Network design concepts such as, topology, scalability, reliability, performance, security, quality of service (QoS), convergence, modularity, standards and protocols;
  • Machine learning and statistical inference;
  • Python, NetworkX, bash scripting;
  • Network emulation and virtualisation using either LXC or Docker containers;
  • RDF data format and SPARQL query language
  • Parser development
