Unlock a unique opportunity to contribute to research in marine ecosystems as a Specialist Technical Support Officer at CQUniversity's Coastal Marine Ecosystem Research Centre (CMERC). Nestled on the Gladstone Marina, CMERC is dedicated to undertaking research that collaborates with nature to build a sustainable future for our coastal communities. Join us in this pivotal role where you will play a crucial part in supporting field, research vessels, and diving operations.

 

As the Boating, Diving and Research Support Officer, you will provide high-level technical expertise to CMERC's research endeavours. Your responsibilities will span the planning and execution of boating operations, support the development of field projects, support compliance and policy development, and management of resources and equipment, all while adhering to Australian Standards, codes, and legislation, especially in Work Health and Safety.

 

Your role extends to diving support operations, where you will ensure safe snorkelling and diving activities, aligning with QLD OH&S laws, Australian Standards, and CQU Diving & Snorkelling Operations Manual. Your contribution will also involve field support, including the collection, preparation, and processing of samples, using standard protocols.

 

Your commitment to Health and Safety protocols, quality systems, and procedures will be crucial, as you contribute to policy development, risk assessments, and inductions. Position Requirements

 

  • Extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical fields; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
  • Current Manual Drivers’ Licence
  • Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Certificate of Competency - Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal (or above)
  • A working familiarity with the Queensland Diving Code of Practice, the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2299.2:2002 for Scientific Diving.
  • Working autonomously or as part of a small team to complete tasks and prioritise work to meet inflexible deadlines with minimal supervision.
