About This Opportunity 

This position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic engagement and communication programs that enhance the University’s reputation with key external stakeholders including industry and corporate organisations, partners, influencers and the community.

This is an exciting opportunity to help establish a newly created corporate affairs function at UQ.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Develop and lead the delivery of engagement and communication programs that enhance the University’s reputation with key stakeholders and partners, aligned to the University’s strategic priorities.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of UQ’s relationship with key stakeholders to ensure aligned communication across a complex intersection of academic, research, commercial and community relationships.

  • Manage the stakeholder and reputation team to deliver engagement and communication support for strategic priorities and corporate initiatives, ensuring key messages and information are conveyed.

  • Maintain a whole-of-university reputational risk register, continuously monitoring and managing the status of items in consultation with other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide strategic reputation and issues management advice to executives and other UQ leaders as required to support UQ’s organisational objectives.

  • Plan and develop a range of corporate content, including strategies, plans, and communication materials.

About You  

  • Tertiary qualifications in communication, public relations, journalism or related discipline with 8+ years relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in the industry.

  • Demonstrated success in providing corporate communication, stakeholder engagement and reputation management practices within the university or research sector or within a large, complex organisation.

  • Experience managing a fast-paced corporate communication team.

  • Exceptional verbal and written skills including the ability to develop content for a range of communications channels and platforms and to present information to influence diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve complex problems.

  • Able to perform out-of-hours/on-call duties as required.

  • Knowledge of or experience in the Australian higher education sector is desirable, but not essential.

What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, continuing position through to at HEW Level 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $102,270 - $114,835 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $119,656 - $134,357 per annum.
