Expression of Interest (EOI)

Simulated Patients are recruited from the community, and some are trained actors. They represent different parts of society and vary in terms of age, culture, language, ethnicity and life experience. Upon joining the program, Simulated Patients become casual employees of the University and are paid to attend training sessions as well as their simulated patient activities.

Simulated Patients play an important part in medical education providing a unique "patient" perspective to training.

The School of Clinical Medicine

The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of both phases of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba as well as QE2 and Redlands Hospitals; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside as well as Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals; Mater and Queensland children's Hospital, South Brisbane; Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich; Greenslopes Private Hospital, Greenslopes; Wesley and St Andrew’s Hospitals, Brisbane; the Primary Care Clinical Unit, Herston and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders.

The Role

The primary purpose of the Simulated Patient is to role play many different scenarios to aid in the teaching of the medicine and allied health students and other University Faculties. This can be through verbal interactions or involve a physical examination component.

The Person

The ideal candidate will possess a caring and empathetic nature with the ability to role-play a number of different scenarios as per specific directions and a set script. You must be reliable and adhere to set timeframes; when required, to attend training sessions to learn specific skills in order to better facilitate the scenario being performed. An ability to deal with issues of a sensitive nature are also critical to the role as well as dealing with information/learning materials in a confidential manner.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

Remuneration

These are casual positions paying $43.24 per hour, inclusive of 25% casual loading.
