Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is one of the largest and most diverse Faculties within The University of Queensland and within Science Faculties across Australia. The Faculty of Science incorporates six schools and four research centres. The units within the Faculty are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work. The Faculty is managed by the Executive Dean, who has direct responsibility for the physical, financial and human resources, academic matters relating to programs and students, and a range of other areas such as the development of research, national and international marketing, and enhanced government, business and community links.

About This Opportunity

The Faculty of Science is seeking an experienced and accomplished professional to become its newest Director of Advancement. In this role you will provide leadership for a highly integrated and collaborative Advancement team.

You will work with the Faculty Executive Dean, Faculty Executive Manager and Director of Development and Principal Giving to clarify philanthropic priorities and determine fundraising goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, and relevant to advancing the Faculty’s mission. You will also provide them with expert philanthropic counsel

In addition, you will provide strategic oversight of the Faculty’s donor and prospective donor portfolio to ensure purpose-driven engagement and donor retention, as well as ensure that Faculty alumni engagement events are designed with measurable outcomes to progress donor engagement.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

As the successful candidate, you will possess an undergraduate degree at minimum and have at least eight (8) years of relevant experience in a fundraising environment or demonstrated success in fundraising, sales or managing relationships with high net worth individuals. Flexibility will also be required, as the role will require domestic travel and the occasional evening or weekend work.

It would be advantageous to have prior experience in a higher education fundraising environment or within a similarly large and complex organisation. You will also have a proven track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative, flexibility and will have the skills to shape an evolving fundraising strategy.
