    • Salary range: Level A $85,902 - $95,464 p.a. subject to qualifications and experience

    Perth is a beautiful city of approximately 2 million residents, situated on the shores of the Indian Ocean.     About the team
    The Human Factors group in the School of Psychological Science have been highly productive in terms of research and industry engagement. Since 2015, the Human Factors group have been awarded around $7 million in funding secured from national competitive schemes (e.g. Australian Research Council) and from industries such as Defence and Aviation. Our Human Factors staff have significant international reputations, serving as Associate Editors of Human Factors and of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, and publishing work in premier scholarly journals (e.g., Psychological Review, JEP: Applied; JEP: General; Human Factors; Accident Analysis and Prevention).The Human Factors laboratories in the School have air traffic control, unmanned vehicle control, submarine control room, and driving simulators.

    About the opportunity
    In this role you will work on a research project funded by the Defence Science and Technology (DST) group which aims to better understand how changes to the design and configuration of submarine control room displays and imagery, and the design of technology such as task automation, influence operator situation awareness, workload, teamwork and team performance outcomes.

    To be considered for this role you will demonstrate:

    • A PhD (or near completion) in human factors (ergonomics), experimental psychology, cognitive psychology or a closely related discipline
    • A record of success in publishing high quality papers, relative to opportunity
    • Knowledge / research experience of human factors topics

    About you
    To be successful in this role you will be an enthusiastic researcher with experience relevant to the position. You will be highly organised with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as you will expected to produce high quality academic papers and present your research findings at conferences. You must be able to use your own initiative whilst also being able to work effectively as part of team. You will be comfortable and confident approaching and liaising with industry partners to build relationships.
