    About the team
    This position is based within the Vascular Biology and Stromal Targeting Laboratory at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, UWA Centre for Medical Research. The Laboratory’s research focus is on understanding how stromal cells are remodelled and the extent to which stroma regulates the cancer’s response to immunotherapy.

    About the opportunity
    You will, under limited direction, undertake research activities in the Laboratory for Vascular Biology and Stromal Targeting, especially in the analysis of cancer stroma in tumour models (genetically modified mice, orthotopic, subcutaneous tumours).
    Using a combination of mouse cancer models and in vitro culture systems our team focuses on understanding the role of pericytes in tumour blood vessel remodelling and response to therapy. The group has already optimised a set of tools and systems to address this type of studies and looks into expanding these studies which will also use in vivo imaging tools.

    To be considered for this role you will demonstrate:

    • PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject with appropriate experience in cancer/immunology and track record.
    • Relevant laboratory/research experience, in mouse handling, tumour implantation/treatment and growth monitoring, tissue culture, histology/immunohistochemistry. Competence in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry.
    • A high level of competency in molecular and cellular biology/signalling analyses including western blotting and qPCR.
    • An understanding of and experience with animal ethics, biosafety requirements and reporting.

    About you
    You will be a highly motivated individual with molecular biology and mouse handling expertise and a commitment to actively pursuing an academic career. You will need to possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
