The role

The School of Information Technology at Deakin delivers courses in information technology, computer science, data analytics, cyber security and software engineering to provide our graduates with a sound platform for the diverse employment opportunities that will exist in the future.

You will work in a close knit team that has a student-first agenda and is passionate about creating the next generation of highly skilled professionals as well as making a contribution to the moderation and maintenance of academic standards, and the development of course and unit curriculum.

This opportunity will be offered at the School of IT at the Geelong Waurn Ponds location and one opportunity for an individual to join the team based at the Melbourne Burwood campus. Appointment will be at the academic level B level with salary in the range of $97,398-$115,199 p.a + 17% super.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • a PhD in IT, Computer Science or a relevant field
  • academic and professional expertise in the field of Information Technology including an ability to make an outstanding contribution to the Faculty’s teaching programs through personal teaching and academic leadership
  • an emerging or established track record of publications in highly ranked international academic journals, including some success gaining nationally competitive and/or industry research funding, relative to opportunity
  • demonstrated evidence of innovation in learning including the use of multi-literacy and teaching effectively in a technology enhanced contemporary higher education environment
  • an ability to manage industry based student projects which deliver high quality learning outcomes as well as industry outcomes

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • establish and grow your reputation at the national level in research and scholarship, through high quality publication or exhibition in high quality and high impact outlets
  • make a significant contribution within your specific areas of research related to Information technology by involvement in research projects, including internal and external collaboration and development of industry partnerships with demonstrable outcomes
  • contribute to the supervision, management and timely completion of HDR students
  • demonstrate superior scholarly learning and teaching across all levels and modes (including for example in the cloud and in clinical settings) with an emerging reputation at the national level
  • researching and publishing in learning and teaching, including testing the effectiveness of innovations designed to improve student and graduate outcomes including graduate employment
  • design and implement best practice assessment and evidence of student learning outcomes at both the Unit and Course level
