The Academic Skills Unit is in the national portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education). Academic Skills Units are located across six of ACU’s campuses. Led by a national manager, the Unit is one of five functional units within the Directorate of the Office of Student Success.

The Academic Skills Advisor provides specialist academic skills advice to assist in the development of academic, language and learning or numeracy skills for all enrolled students. The position teaches skills programs in lectures / tutorials, workshops and individual consultations. The role also develops and publishes support materials and online resources.

More specifically the role will involve:

  • the design, development and publishing of online teaching and learning resources for use by students and academic staff.
  • developing and delivering lectures, tutorials and other classes in the range of academic skills provision including; learning styles/strategies; time management; critical analysis and examination preparation.

To be successful you will need:

  • to have completed, or be progressing towards, postgraduate qualifications in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, International Education or a related Education area.
  • teaching experience in an academic educational environment, including teaching Non-English-Speaking Background (NESB) students. 
  • an ability to design, teach and evaluate academic skills programs in a variety of learning situations, including online delivery, workshops and lectures at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to suit the many disciplines.

Total remuneration valued to $101,111 - $109,432 pa (pro rata), including salary component $85,440- $92,471 pa (pro rata) (Higher Education Worker Level 7), employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
